AIUインターン日記～Daily of internship students from Akita International University～「カリーナ、秋田のこどもたちと秋田の良いことを学びました！ Karina experienced Akita’s countryside with Akita’s children!」
11月は、いなか学校の準備ですごく忙しかったです。いなか学校とは、3日間連休の間に、子供たちを預けて親は自由な時間をワーケーションしながら楽しんでいただくために企画した子供たち向けの教育プログラムです。秋田の伝統的な小正月行事体験、畑でのだいこん抜きなどの自然体験、シアターエデュケーション(演劇教育)などのプログラムです。秋田県では、子供たちが少なく、普通には子供に会うチャンスが少ないです。この3日間は子供たちに関わることができ楽しかったです。今回のいなか学校は2回目でしたけど、全く新しいプログラムを立てました。
Last month I was quite busy with the preparations for Inaka Gakko. Inaka Gakkou is an event that lasts for three days, while parents work or travel, Warabi Theater performs a special program for the children. During these three days, children are able to experience traditional New Year traditions of Akita, experience farmer’s life and learn more about theatrical performance. There are actually very few children here in Akita, so I was excited to be surrounded by children for these few days. This was the second Inaka Gakkou held by Warabiza, however, this time we prepared a completely new program for the children
1日目の内容は、開校式、スタッフ紹介、だいこんの収穫体験、俵編み体験と天筆に願い事を書くことでした。子供たちの参加者は15人で、6人は前回のいなか学校の参加者でした。最初は、参加者の子供たちは3組に分けて、子供たちは仲良く5人組みで楽しんでいました。
On the first day, children were introduced to each other and to the staff members. The first day was quite fun as we took children to pick the radish from a field close to the theater and afterwards the children had a chance to learn Akita’s traditional New Year preparations. One of the traditions that Warabiza has shown to the children was tenpitsu. Tenpitsu is a long colorful piece of paper where children write their wishes
私にとって、1日目には、最も楽しいのはだいこん抜きだったと思います。その日は、天気がよく、山と森に囲まれている畑がすごく綺麗でした。雨が降らなく、天気が晴れていたことで運がよかったと思いました。そして、秋田の伝統的な小正月行事の準備。最初は、子供たちと一緒に俵編みを。その後で、天筆に願うことを書きます。1日目はこんなふうに過ごしました。
What I enjoyed the most on the first day was the trip to the field to pick the radish. That was a very
beautiful day with clear sky and we could enjoy the beautiful view.
1日目の夜には、親子が楽しめる「秘密基地でランタン紙芝居」を開催しました。場所は、わらび劇場の大道具製作場になりました。大道具制作場のセッティングができ、雰囲気が本当に素晴らしくなってきました。親子さんたちは、大道具製作場に電気を消したままでランタンの灯りだけで入っていって、電気を付けると、みんなはすごくびっくりしました。レトロな雰囲気ができ、まるで昭和時代の雰囲気だと思いました。
Later on the same day, we held a storytelling performance for children and their parents at Warabiza’s decorations studio. We chose this particular location because of its retro atmosphere which was interesting for both children and their parents. The visitors would come into the studio with the lights turned off. As the guests had gathered, the lights were turned on.
そして、本番が始まり、私は絵本を読んでいる役者の小松さんに手伝いました。小松さんは「どうぶつのサーカス」と「もちもちの木」を読みながら、私は絵本のページをめくりました。「もちもちの木」は本番のために選ばれた理由は、あのストーリーは東北の自然を届けているからです。わらび座でインターンしているうちに、少しだけ舞台に出ることができ、嬉しいです。そして、本番が終わり、制作場の職員は制作場の説明をしてあげました。大道具制作場で本番を上げるのは本当に珍しく、親子さんにとって楽しく、面白いプログラムでした。
This kind of storytelling with illustrations is called Kamishibai(paper theater). As the narrator was telling the story, I kept flipping the pages. I’ve never been on a stage before and I’m happy I had a chance to make a brief appearance on the stage.
As the performance ended, one of the decorations studio employees gave a short speech about the decorations for Warabi Theater.
2日目には、シアターエデュケーション(演劇教育)とテニス練習でした。シアターエデュケーションとは、わらび座の役者さんと一緒にゲームをしたり、ストーリーを作ったり、作ったストーリーを演じてみたりします。]
On the second day, we prepared theater education and sports program for the children. After playing games with the Warabiza’a actresses, the children created an performed their own stories.
最終日の流れは、秋田弁でラジオ体操、おやき作りと英語で歌を歌うことが入っていました。おやきは私もこれまで食べたことがなく、初めて食べてみました。暖かく、おいしかったです。子供たちが心から楽しんでいることが伝わってきました。
Although the last day was shorter than the previous days, it still was full of interesting activities such as morning exercising and cooking rice pastries with red beans paste.
子供たちが、運動プログラムや演劇プログラム、料理作り、畑で農家体験などのことに参加するのは大切なことだと思います。なぜかというと、現在は、多くの子供たちは、インターネットで動画を見たり、ゲームをしたりバーチャルな世界と親しむ機会が多く、実際の出会いや体験が少なくなりがちだと感じるからです。いなか学校に参加すると、自分の学校以外の友達が作ることができ、子供時代の楽しい思い出も作ることができます。また、子供たちは自分の価値観を広げることができ、世界の理解を深めることもできると思います。
I believe it is very important to invite children to such events as exercising, cooking or experiencing country life. It is very common for many children now to spend most of their time watching videos on the Internet or playing games. Participating in such events as Inaka Gakko allows children to meet new friends and create fun childhood memories. I hope that the children learned something new during these three days.
今回は、いなか学校を通して、わらび座と国際教養大学生が一緒に働きながら、新しいプロジェクトを立てる取り組みでもありました。今回のいなか学校は、AIU生のインターン生と7人のAIU生のボランティアが参加してくれて、初めてのわらび座とAIUのコラボでした。
今年は、AIUの授業はオンラインで開催しており、学生は同級生との本物のコミュニケーションが取りずらい状況が続いています。ずっと家からオンライン授業を受けており、学生時代の楽しい記憶が少ないです。でも今回のいなか学校に参加して、子供たちに関わり、自然に関わり、芸術にかかわり、すばらしい経験をすることができたと思います。
Inaka Gakko has also become a chance for AIU students and for Warabiza to work together on one project. As AIU classes were held only online this year, Inaka Gakko was a chance for the students to go out and participate in fun activities with the children. These three days included many fun activities and I’m sure it was as much fun for the AIU students as for the children.

わらび座は新たな取り組みとして、9月から12月まで、国際教養大学（AIU）の学生2名のインターン生を受け入れています。これは、国際教養大学がコロナウイルス感染拡大防止のため2020年4月から1年間キャンパスや寮が閉鎖されオンライン授業を継続せざるを得ない中、学生の皆様の住居の確保や、社会との新たな出会いの場づくりとして実施されるものです。このブログでは、4か月という限られた期間ですが、インターン生から見た、わらび座・秋田の姿を、日々の仕事を通じて綴っていきたいと思います。

From September to December, Warabiza accepts two internship students from Akita International University. From April 2020, Akita International University closed the campus, and they provide all online courses in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Thus, we think we can help the students by offering accommodations and providing new connections for students and the local community in Akita. Although the period is limited, we will tell you the feelings and the perspectives of the two students for Warabiza and Akita.
